Before The First Class

Ergonomic 'Cardboard' Chair

an unconventional design

a) my best (favourite) piece of creative work before coming to UNSW Architectural Studies.

This ergonomic chair was produced from a challenge my previous tutor
had assigned me and my team. The brief was to produce a functional chair only from
cardboard; no other materials allowed, including glue or tape. We as a team then drew inspiration from the human body to maximise comfort. We were only given 2 studio classes to
complete this chair, hence, the time management and dividing the work station
were crucially important.

The Pierre

by Architect Tom Kundig

b) an image of what I think is a great piece of architecture.

The Seattle-based firm Olson Kundig Architects had to use dynamite,
chippers and saws to bore through the huge boulders located on the site to make some
room for this concrete one-storey house. I think what makes this piece of architecture really beautiful is the fact that it appeared as if it rises from the ground, as a natural extension of the surroundings.

The Ijen Volcano

East Java, Indonesia

c) an original photograph of something beautiful.

Me and my family celebrated the new year isolated here
in the depths of the Ijen Volcano in East Java, Indonesia. There was no phone service
or any kind of entertainment, so we had to try and entertain ourselves. Me and my cousins would walk through the dense forest early in the morning and even get lost. That was how
I got this beautiful shot of the sunrise at the Ijen Volcano.
